BEACHSIDE, 2016,  15.3h Bay gelding

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). Beachside is a classy, handsome horse with a perfect sport horse pedigree–he is a son of Giant’s Causeway out of a Tiznow mare. He also happens to be cute, friendly, relaxed around people, and perhaps even a little bit of a ham and a show off! His owner/handler told us that he is “very intelligent, responsive to voice commands, and likes to communicate to us”. And we observed that he does seem to enjoy interacting with people. He’s said to be neat in his stall and easy to work around-he’s typically groomed loose in his stall without being tied. The exercise riders report that he is “very nice to ride”. Beachside is very well put together with a long, sloping shoulder, pretty head, elegant neck, and powerful hindquarters. He does have some ankle rounding but we are told that this does not bother him and that he is sound. He walked and jogged politely on a loose lead where we saw some airy, floaty movement. Judging from his pedigree, build, and movement, Beachside could excel in many disciplines from eventing to dressage to H/J.

Beachside has had a successful racing career, earning $176,131 in his 46 starts, with 6 wins, 6 seconds, and 7 thirds. He, as his handlers say, could continue to run and do well but they believe that this very personable boy just really wants to “hang out with people” and that he “could go in any career” direction and be happy in his work. The class in his pedigree is exemplary. His dam, Lovely Lil, is a graded stakes winner who has produced stakes winners. This guy has it all-looks, movement, pedigree! And those of us who ride the horse, not the withers height, know that the athletic, solidly built 15.3 horses are often the overall best and fit all but the very tallest of riders. So those of you average height people who know better than obsessing over ginormous horses will get a true gem in Beachside!

ESPECIAL, 2020, 15.2h, Dark Bay Filly

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). There is nothing plain about this darling dark bay filly! Especial has a bright expression and a keen eye to go along with her compact, strong stature. She’s reported to be smart and pleasant to work around on the track and at the farm and was very quiet during her photo shoot. She is said to crib mildly when eating. Her current connections have not attempted to put a cribbing on collar on as it is very mild. Unfortunately for her connections, she’s just not showing any promise as a racehorse and they’ve decided to let this young lady move on to a career where she might find her blue ribbon performance. It’s reported that she has no injuries and is very sound-just isn’t demonstrating enough racing talent. We could see this capable filly going in any direction! She is eligible for RRP!

Especial is by Exaggerator, who is a son of the great Curlin, and she is out of an Awesome Again (Deputy Minister) mare.

BUMBLE MONSTER, 2019 16h chestnut gelding

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). Calling all lovers of Frost Giant offspring — here’s a lovely young gelding by that sire who’s deservedly super popular in the sport horse world. And to make his pedigree even more enticing as a sport horse prospect, his damsire is Not for Love. Our volunteer just adored this sweet boy when we met him for his photo shoot. Bumble was sweet and quiet and stood patienty to be groomed and was very friendly. His connections report he is athletic and sound, but just isn’t good enough as a racehorse to warrant bringing him back next year. They would prefer to see him move on to a different discipline where he can be more successful. Bumble is reported to be good to work around at the track and at the farm. His trainer reports he prefers a light hand when riding. They also report that he likes his handlers to go slow when clipping his bridle path, which seems understandable to us! We could see him going in many different sporting directions — eventingm hunters, dressage, whatever you want — and Bumble Monster is eligible for RRP. You could have a lot of fun with this name at horse shows!

CORAGESCONTENDER, 2017 16.2h bay gelding

This beautiful homebred is very special to his connections, and they want ot find him the best home to develop him for what we are confident will be a successful sport horse career.  He certainly has the looks, size, good brain, lovely movement, and sport horse oriented pedigree to excel in eventing, H/J or dressage.   We watched Coragescontender get groomed for his photo session, and he stood there like an angel without being tied up, enjoying his groom’s attention.  She exclaimed that he’s “the awesomest horse to groom in the whole barn,” classy and smart and kind. “He’s special and he knows it,” she said. His legs are clean and tight, and his breeder/owner/trainer attested that he is very sound horse who has never had any issues. For his jog video he was respectful of his handler and showed a light flowing trot with good engagement from behind and reach from his shoulders. He is the first foal from his owner/breeders’ first broodmare, and their first homebred to win at the top level NYRA tracks.  Prior to 2022 Coragescontender primarily raced in allowance and even stakes level races.  But last year he seemed to be less interested in racing, and rather than keep dropping him down the claiming race levels, his breeder/owners want to find him a new career in an excellent approved home. This spring, he has been used a few times as a pony horse to accompany racehorses to morning workouts or the afternoon races, and he has proved unflappable.  The trainer will require references that will be checked.  Coragescontender is by Courageous Cat, who is proving to be a sire of excellent jumpers — we know of many succeeding in the hunter ring and in eventing. His dam is by Strong Contender, who is a son of Maria’s Mon, a coveted sport horse sire known for offspring with good brains, good movement who are very good jumpers. His dam also descends from the Fappiano line, another strong sport horse sire line.

BROTHER JOE, 2020 16.1h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

This beautiful homebred young gelding is described as an in your pocket, playful horse with a great temperament.  He had one very slow and unsuccessful start in April, and when he worked very slowly in late May, the trainer had him physically checked out, and it turns out that he has small chips in a knee. The chips have not bothered him, and he has not been unsound and he has not had any heat or swelling in his knees. The x-rays are available from the trainer, and we shared them with a friend who is an equine orthopedic surgeon and an eventer, and that person said they would happily take on this horse as their own eventing prospect! While the chips may never bother Brother Joe, arthroscopic surgery could also be done to remove them, with an excellent prognosis for Joe’s ability to do any discipline without limitation. He displayed light good movement for his jog video, although he was a bit eager while jogging towards the race track where horses were training.   Brother Joe is by Fast Anna, who is by Medaglia D’Oro out of a Rahy mare. You can’t beat these ElPrado/Sadler’s Wells and Blushing Groom bloodlines for sport disciplines!  Brother Joe’s dam is by Pulpit, a son of AP Indy.  He comes from a dam line of competitive stakes winning mares, so there is a lot of heart and try in his female family.  This is an opportunity to get a gorgeous young horse at a bargain price!

FRANKIE KNOWS BEST, 2020 16.1h+ bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track

The very sweet Frankie impressed us as an outstanding sport horse prospect, and for people who are looking for big, this young filly still has a lot of growing to do, and we think she could top out at 16.2-3h.   Frankie has won three of her 12 starts this year, but she must now face tougher competition, and with the end of the racing season approaching, her trainer thinks it is best to let Frankie go out a winner on the track to become a winner in a new sport horse discipline.  Her trainer described Frankie as sound, slow, and very sweet and quiet.  We observed her lovely demeanor firsthand, as she was very friendly with our volunteers, soaking up our pats and nuzzling us as she stood quietly, untied, to be groomed for her photo shoot.  Long legged with a great shoulder and nice topline, Frankie showed off a big overstep at the walk and a light trot with good hind end engagement, jogging politely on a loose lead. She has clean and tight legs, and her trainer says she has no vices or issues.  Frankie is by Frank Conversation, a young son of Quality Road, and her dam is by Belong to Me, a son of Danzig, and is out of a Dynaformer mare.   She has the long legged, good moving, good brained look of Quality Road’s offspring, which tend to be later maturing.  Her sire Frank Conversation excelled at long distance turf races, so the dirt sprints at Finger Lakes are not the best outlet to show his offspring’s aptitude. But just think how cross-country courses will fit their breeding!  Frankie is fully eligible for the 2024 RRP, and we would love to see her rocking it in eventing, fox hunting, jumping, or dressage at the RRP!

RUBY ROAD, 2019 16.1h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester). This stunning homebred had both our dressage volunteer and our show hunter volunteer drooling — we think he is an excellent prospect for many new careers, and up there in the very top tier of horses we have listed. He is very well put together, with a strong shoulder, gret hip angles, and a lovely neckset with a good topline.  He has a kind and intelligent eye, and his breeder/owner/trainer reports that he is easy to handle with a very good temperament. She states that he is very sound, and his only quirk is that he gets aggressive about his food at graining time, so he is not a candidate for 24/7 turnout where he might keep other horses from their fair share. After five lackluster races, it is time to let him find the sporting endeavor that he can excel in.  His trainer reports that she rode him when he was a two year old, and that he showed great endurance — she told us about a nearly two hour trail ride around the farm that didn’t tire him in the least.  Sounds like he might have aptitude for cross-country and hunter paces! He showed off beautiful movement, with loft, reach, and a swinging push from behind. If a horse is this good at using their back and hind end on the track, imagine what it will be like after some retraining for a new discipline.  He also has an excellent sport horse pedigree.  His sire is War Dancer, a son of War Front from the Danzig sire line.  HIs dam, who was stakes placed, is by Tizwonderful who is a son of Tiznow out of a Henessy mare.

The owner/breeder/trainer will be picky about who gets her beloved homebred, so be prepared to show your bona fides and references.

BLUE COSMO, 2020 16.1h bay gelding

Located at Presque Isle Race Track, Erie PA

Here is Ruby Road’s younger brother — out of the same mare, but this guy is by great jumping sire Desert Party!  The flashy and beautiful Cosmo is a homebred. described by his breeder/owner/trainer as a sweetheart with a sensible quiet demeanor who is naturally mentally laid back with a great temperament.  She told us that she rode him as a two year old all over the farm, and he was always very well behaved. Lightly raced, with three unsuccessful starts so far, Cosmo is described as very sound, and he has clean legs.  It looks like his aptitude may be in a discipline other than racing, so his trainer/breeder wants to find that perfect new fit for him. Cosmo is very well put together, with a good shoulder, solid bone, great feet, and he is certainly going to grow into a bigger boy, since he is still a bit butt high.  Cosmo displayed his sensible temperament for us — right when his trainer brought him out of the barn, another horse in the road erupted in front of him, and Cosmo looked, but respectfully listened to his trainer and held it together until the rambunctious horse passed by, and then visibly relaxed. Cosmo showed very good movement in his jog video, flowing and relaxed, a bit more of a huntery flat kneed style than the lofty trot of his brother. We can see him excelling as a show hunter, but he ha unlimited potential for any sport horse discipline. HIs sire, Desert Party, a son of Street Cry, is known for siring horses who are excellent jumpers — we have placed several over the years who have succeeded in eventing, show jumping, and in the hunter ring.  His dam is by TizWonderful, a son of Tiznow.  HIs breeding is definitely top of the line for sprot horse disciplines!

The breeder/trainer will be very choosy about who gets her beloved homebred boy, so be prepared to convince her you will be the perfect home with great references.

ICE’S IRONICDANCER, 2020 15.2h dark bay filly – sold for racing

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington,NY

Very pretty little Ice has shown no racing ability in 10 starts, so it is time to let her find a new career. She is descrfibed as a good girl, easy to work with, sweet, sound, but slow. She is by Ironicus out of Bronxgirl by Corinthian.

Note: shortly after we listed her, her trainer at that time sold her to another person at the track who wanted to try to race her again.

CLASSY PAPA, 2017 15.3h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack, Farmington, NY (near Rochester). UPDATE as of early June 2023: Classy Papa has been donated to the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program (FLTAP), an on-site adoption barn run by the track. You can see him there and put in an application to be approved as an adopted if you are interested. See: http://www.fltap.org/available-horses

If you’re looking for a horse with personality, Papa is your guy. Papa’s trainer reports that he loves attention, that he “just wants to play” with his human, and is just very much a stereotypical gelding. While Papa is a very good boy, he can be a bit mouthy at times, but otherwise has no vices. He’s good for grooming and working around.

Papa does have arthritic changes in one of his knees. X-rays are available to seriously interested parties.  According to his trainer, he did remain sound while running, but is no longer competitive so she would like to see him move on to a new lower-level career.

While Papa was a bit distracted for his video- it was dinner time, after all- he was respectful of his handler.  He displayed a steady, even tempo, and will likely be more “whoa” than “go”.  Papa may not be the next upper level mount, but he is suitable for most lower level pursuits. Papa is by Papa Clem, who is from the Smart Strike line.  He is out of a Tizbud mare, from the Tiznow line.

TALE OF MINESHAFT, 2018 15.3h stallion

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

They say great stallions make even greater geldings, and Tale of Mineshaft’s track connections fully believe this will be true about him! It is reported that he can even go on the hot walker with fillies!  While he has no stall vices- even being stabled next to a filly- it is said that he can act “like a colt” when he is getting a bath, and even then it is only playful.  Tale of Mineshaft had right front ankle surgery, placing a screw, last year. While he has not raced since, his connections report that he has been sound to breeze, gallop, and jog. He was cleared to go back to racing, and his trainer had planned to geld and race him, but Mineshaft’s owner is getting out of racing and would like his boy to find a good home.

Mineshaft is reported to be lovely to ride on the track, going right to work.  As he displayed in our attempts at videos, Mineshaft is a bit up right now. He has not trained since April 13th.  While we did not get to see much of his jog in person, he did display a lovely canter for our volunteer.  And while “high” right now from a lack of work, he did remain respectful of his handler and stood perfectly to be admired for his photoshoot.  We’ve included a video his trainer sent previously for at least a little jog.

Tale of Mineshaft is by Mineshaft who is son of the legendary AP Indy and is out of a Tale of the Cat mare. His pedigree screams class and athleticism. His dam is a stakes winner, and his second dam is a multiple graded stakes winner and stakes producer. This boy has the makings of a lovely gelding and his connections want to find the very best home for him!

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

Here’s another young, large, grey gelding with a big personality to boot!  Hangar is a trainer favorite! This goofy guy wowed volunteers with his uphill build and natural over track at the walk! Hangar is currently barefoot. Hangar sustained a sesamoid fracture in 2022 but was fully rehabbed and is fully cleared to return to racing, but his trainer feels he is better suited to life off the track.  X rays available to serious parties. While Hangar could excel in many mid to low level jobs, his trainer feels he would be a fantastic eventer!  He will require a person experienced with OTTBs and is not a good candidate for a first timer.  Hangar One is by He’s Had Enough, who has both Tapit and Dixie Land Band lines that are both coveted for their athleticism and sport horse ability!

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

Calling all fans of big, grey geldings! Al’s Prince certainly fits the ideal!  This 5 year old is lightly raced but managed to earn over $100,000 in his career!  Al is reported to be as laid back as he is good looking.  His connections state that he has no vices and is easy to work with.  While he hasn’t been with them long, his connections say he’s been great to have around the barn.  It was reported that he came back a little sore after his last breeze but has been sound since, so his owner has decided he has paid his dues and would like him to find another career.  Al last raced in October so he is RRP eligible.  Al’s Prince is by the highly desired Cairo Prince, known for throwing ammy friendly brains and incredible movement, and in his jog video, he definitely held true! While the cool, breezy day had him feeling a bit up, he remained respectful; of his handler during his jog video and displayed lovely natural suspension that made our dressage riding volunteer drool! EVRYBODYLUVSNORMAN, 2017, 16h chestnut/roan gelding

Located at a farm in Victor NY, near Finger Lakes Race Track
Aptly named — as his owner/trainer attests, everybody truly does love Norman! She reports that Norman is a very sweet horse, a barn favorite, and “just a good guy to be around.”  He is described as a kind soul, sound, with no vices at all, who is good to ride and who has a great work ethic — he loves to train.  He has 2 wins in 13 starts, with 3 seconds and 3 thirds, but in his 6 starts in 2022 he did not win.  So his track connections, who prefer to concentrate their racing string on horses who can successfully compete in higher level races, realize that it is time to let beloved Norman find a new career in a home that will love him as much as they do. They say that he can go in any direction, and that he is unflappable, with nothing bothering him. Norman has striking white roaning throughout his chestnut coat, and all his chrome will surely get you noticed in whatever arena you focus on. He displayed a floaty trot with good push from behind and a flowing reach from the shoulders in the short jog video taken at the farm where he is hanging out until he finds his perfet new person.   Norman is sired by Normandy Invasion, a son of Tapit who quickly proved to be a popular sport horse sire, and who is now pensioned from stud and is succeeding in his new eventing career. Norman’s dam, Sunshine Stormy, is by another popular sport horse sire, Stormy Atlantic.  And on her dam side she comes from outstanding sport horse lines — Personal Flag, Private Account, Arts and Letters, and Naskra.
What a perfect Christmas present — a beautiful, sweet, flashy, sound, good moving young gelding with a great sport horse pedigree from outstanding track connections. And fully RRP eligible and offered at a bargain price!

BEAUTIFUL BANKS, 2019, 16h dark bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track until Nov. 30, then will be at a nearby farm
Beautiful indeed, this daughter of Shackleford — a terrific sport horse sire known for horses with ammy friendly brains — is an excellent sport horse prospect.  Her owner/ trainer says that she is “super sound and super sweet,” and attests that she has no vices.  Beautiful Banks won a maiden special weight level race for this owner/trainer in September,   but in her three starts since then against winners she has been less competitive.  So her connections would rather find her a new career rather then bring her back to the races next year and have to drop her way down the claiming ladder.  She is fully eligible for the RRP, and we think she can be as successful there — and in any sport horse career — as other Shackleford offspring have been. Indeed, sport horse people who have had the pleasure of working with Shackleford offspring rave about them and urge people to snap them up when one is offered.  Beautiful Banks has a soft kind eye and expression, a huge sloping shoulder, and an uphill build that suggests excellent aptitude for dressage or eventing.  The trainer who sent us these photos was not yet able to find someone to take a video of her, but since the track closes for the winter in just one week, we are posting her now instead of waiting until the weekend to get a jog video.  But we did watch the replay of her winning race in September, and we observed a fluid rhythmic canter coming back to the winner’s circle, and that bodes well for her being a good mover as most Shackleford’s are.  Her dam, Ferrito, is a granddaughter of AP Indy and Pleasant Colony, also excellent sport horse lines.

HONEY DOESN’T KNOW, 2018, 15.3h, chestnut gelding

Everyone loves a good story, so here is the one belonging to this adorable gelding: the owner purchased him shortly after his wife and he decided they wouldn’t be buying any more. He thought it better to ask for forgiveness than permission, thus his name, Honey Doesn’t Know. Luckily, when “honey” found out, she approved, and so did our volunteers! This young guy only raced twice as they wanted to give him some time for his growth plates to close. He is not showing any aptitude for racing, so his connections have decided it is time to find him a new job.
This guy stood patiently while our volunteers set him up for his photo shoot. He took every opportunity to offer his snoot for a smooch. His connections state that he is very easy to be around but will crib around mealtime. They have never tried a collar. He is reported to be sound. His groom stated that two days after his last race, they took him for a trail ride, and he acted as if he was an old pro! His connections couldn’t say enough good things about this easy going, sweet guy!
His first pass at the jog, his trainer took him. He jogged very slowly beside his trainer, but while he was very well behaved, we couldn’t see much of his movement, so his groom offered to take him for a pass. He demonstrated a lofty, flat kneed trot that, when paired with all his chrome, is sure to stand out in the hunter ring — an arena where other horses by his sire area already succeeding! But we could see this super sweet, eager to please guy going in any direction! Honey Doesn’t Know is by Majestic City who is by the coveted City Zip line known for their ammy friendly personalities. His dam, Quidnunc Gulch, is by Thunder Gulch, this line known for their athleticism, jumping ability, and good brains. We have placed three of Quidnunc Gulch’s previous offspring in past years, and they have all turned out to be wonderful horses for their happy new owners. Indeed, on of those people reports that her son of Quidnunc Gulch is her horse of a lifetime. One of our volunteers has a Majestic City son who has the sweetest personality and is succeeding in the show hunter ring, earning good ribbons at big A circuit shows, and who just finished 15th out of 85 in the show hunters at the 2022 RRP. We think Honey Doesn’t Know has great potential to be just as successful. He is fully eligible for the 2023 RRP Thoroughbred Makeover and we can see this one as the perfect project for that! Don’t let this adorable, young guy pass you by!

ITSYOUNOTME, 2018, 16.1h bay gelding

Itsyounotme, lovingly referred to as “Joe” in the barn, is a blank slate. He’s had two starts, and did not hit the board in either, so his connections feel that he would be best suited in a different career. They report he has a “been there done that” attitude and is very good to handle and ride. Joe is reported to be a “giant pony”. He certainly was a volunteer favorite for the day! On a windy, freezing day that had most horses feeling very jumpy, Joe stood perfectly quiet for his photo shoot and jogged politely on a loose lead. Joe is built like a tank and will fill out a taller rider’s leg. We observed as he quietly stood without being tied while being groomed (he’s reported to love a few naps each day). Overall, his connections report he is a joy to have in the barn and super sweet to be around. He is reported to be retiring sound with no vices. We think whoever ends up with him in the barn will be very lucky!! Joe will be eligible for RRP 2023. He is by Palace out of a Yes It’s True mare.

MELLMAN, 2015 16.1h chestnut gelding

Mellman is described as a great horse who is great in the barn but just ready for a career off the track. Although he has won twice this year, his connections feel he will just not be competitive in the races he will now be eligible for, so they would like to see him succeed in a different career. They report that he is very athletic and can be forward on the track. They feel he would be best suited for someone experienced with off the track thoroughbreds. They also report he is very brave and they could see him excelling as a foxhunter or in the eventing or show jumping world. Indeed, his half-sister, out of the same dam, is a rock star in the 1.0 meter jumpers at A circuit horse shows, and she also fox hunted and did eventing. They report that Mellman has no stable vices and that he is retiring sound with no known issues. His connections bred him and have had him since he was a foal, so they can give you his whole life story and all the itty bitty details that we typically don’t have access to. Since they have had him for such a long time, they are attached to him, and only the best of homes will do! We feel this is a bargain price for an athletic gelding without limitations of his size, so we suggest calling quickly if he checks all the boxes for you. Mellman has won $55,000 in 28 starts with 4 wins and 4 thirds. He will be eligible for RRP. Mellman is by Bob and John, who is by Seeking the Gold, and Mellman’s dam is by Big Mukora.

TWISTED SUNSET, 2018, 16h dark bay gelding

Twisted Sunset is described as the “barn pet”.  His connections report he is very good to ride and handle in the barn. He is also good with the pony horse on the racetrack. His handler reported he can be nervous when in the paddock just before a race, but does not get naughty. She reports she thinks he would love to have his own “person” to bond with, as he loves people (and especially loves mints). They report Twisted Sunset has no vices and no soundness issues. He was quiet during his photo shoot, and jogged slowly and politely on the ice for his video. His connections feel like he could go in lots of different directions, and we could see some athletic movement in his jog despite needing to trot slowly due to the conditions. Twisted Sunset is a barn favorite, so a good home is an absolute must. He would be a great prospect for RRP 2023! Twisted Sunset has earned over $67,000 in 21 starts with 7 wins, 1 second, and 3 thirds. Wow — that many wins shows he sure does have heart and a competitive spirit! He is by Twirling Candy, who is a son of the great Candy Ride from the Crytoclearance branch of the Fappiano line — one of the best for eventing and other sport horse endeavors! His dam is by  Belong to Me who is by Danzig, and she is out of Valid Appeal from the In Reality line. Excellent sport horse pedigree, great temperament, athletic uphill build, great heart — he is the whole package as a sport horse prospect!

STARSHIP GODDESS, 2017, 15.3h Dark Bay Mare

This $70,000 yearling is letting her connections know that she is ready for a new job off the track. She has earned about $40,000 in her 14 starts with 3 wins, 2 seconds, and 1 third, but she did not hit the board at all this year, so her connections know her racing time is coming to an end. They gave her time off over the spring at the farm nearby to see if a break from the track would renew her racing spirit, but alas, she really wants a new job! Racings loss is your gain. Starship Goddess is described as very sweet who wants to please and is good to handle. They report she has some old, set ankles that she is sound on. We admired her gorgeous dapples that are still peeking out under her winter coat coming in. She stood politely while being groomed and did not display any stall vices. She jogged politely for her video and showed cute movement despite a hind shoe being loose and the ground being icy. We think Starship Goddess will make someone a great partner in a new discipline! She will be eligible for RRP in 2023. Starship Goddess is by Awesome Again out of a Distorted Humor mare.

AZOGAR, 2018, 15.3h grey filly

Calling all grey lovers! This sweet girl may be your total package. She is described as sweet and an overall lovely girl. Her connections report she is good to pony in the morning and has no known soundness issues. She is owned by an older gentleman with some mobility issues and he is able to handle her without issue. They report she has no stall vices. She stood quietly for her photo shoot. She had to be walked/handled very quietly and calmly today, as the roads were very icy from a recent cold front and snow (for safety to both horses and humans). We could see that she had nice movement shining through despite her slow movements. We could see her shining in any sporting discipline. Make her up your own way! She will be a great prospect for RRP 2023! Azogar is by Majestic City, who is a son of City Zip. Her dam is by Skip Away. One of our volunteers has a horse by Majestic City, who is the sweetest, most laid back horse and is excelling as a show hunter, and recently finished 15th out of over 80 horses in the show hunter division of the 2022 RRP. So we are understandably big fans of Majestic City offspring!

WHAT MIGHTAVEBEEN, 2018, 15.3h, bay filly

Freud lovers-unite — here is another Freud offspring with great sport horse potential, as all Freuds have! What Mightavebeen is described as athletic and a sweet girl with a good brain who is ready for a job. She was showing some promise on the race track, earning $44,000 in 14 starts with 2 wins, 2 seconds, and 2 thirds. While bringing her back into training in the spring after wintering, she got loose while on the walker and sustained lots of cuts and wounds. Her connections report that none of these damaged any ligaments, bones, tendons, etc, but the vet suggested allowing all the wounds to heal prior to bringing her back, which was estimated to take 4-6 months. She is back and in training and sound and has official workouts, but the track meet is now ending, so her connections feel it’s just best to let her start a new career rather than wintering her again. She is reported to be sound and cleared for any discipline after the track. What Mightavebeen has been a trooper through it all and loves people (and treats). She showed nice movement for her jog video, with good suspension at the jog. We could see her being a lovely dressage prospect, but surely she could go in many different directions. Freud tends to produce horses with good movement and jumping ability, with good brains. What Mightavebeen will be eligible for RRP 2023. She is by Freud, who is a full brother to Giant’s Causeway. Her dam is by Indian Charlie, which is another excellent sport horse line known for good brains, and iis out of an AP Indy mare. She comes from one of the best female families in US TB breeding, so she also has excellent broodmare potential, either for racing or for sport horse breeding. Her dam line traces to Battle Creek Girl, a great broodmare who produced numerous stakes winners, champions, successful sires and mares who have produced countless stakes winners.

NORTH COAST, 2019 15.3+h dark bay gelding — owner retained

This beautiful young and still growing gelding impressed us with his balanced conformation, strong sloping shoulder and deep heart girth and good topline.  He is described as a sweetheart and a “big ham” who loves people and attention.  He has raced 9 times, all at the maiden special weight level, never dropping into claiming races.  He has shown a competitive spirit, with 6 second or third place finishes, but a win has proved elusive. So his owners/breeders want to find him a new career rather than drop into lower level races.  He has knee chips in the upper joint that he has been racing steadily on.  We were told that the vet says that while they sometimes shift during the high intensity speed of a race, they should not pose a problem for a new career in many other disciplines. X-rays are available.  For his jog video, which was taken just a couple of days after he had raced,  North Coast showed good movement with suspension a nice hind end engagement.  We can see him doing dressage, or lower level eventing, or enjoying trails and your attention and treats.  He is sired by Vancouver, who is a son of Medaglia D’Oro (Sadler’s Wells sire line) out of  Danehill (Danzig line) mare.  North Coast’s dam, Always in Stillettos, was a multiple stakes winner for the owner/breeders of North Coast.  She is by Bandini (Fusaichi Pegasus line) out of a mare that brings in another cross of Danzig. This beautiful young gelding will grow some more, and can have many useful new careers, so please do not pass him by!

MISS GOLD MEDALIST, 2017, 15.3h dark bay mare

Who wouldn’t love to kiss that white “kiss spot” on this lovely mare’s nose? Miss Gold Medalist has been a good racehorse earning over $67,000 in her 24 starts with 4 wins, 2 seconds, and 7 thirds. Despite hitting the board in 50% of her starts this year, her connections acknowledge her heart isn’t in the game as much and they are ready to send her on to a second career. They report she is a super friendly and sweet girl who likes to bond and connect with her handler/rider. They think she would love to have someone to call her “person”. They report she is good to work with and ride. The cold windy day had her feeling her oats when we did her photo shoot, but she was just fidgety, nothing naughty. They report she is retiring sound without any vices. We could see her excelling as an eventing or jumpers partner, but she could go many other directions too! She will be eligible for RRP 2023. Miss Gold Medalist is by Golden Ticket, who is a son of Speightstown from the Gone West sire line and out of a Deputy Minister mare. Miss Gold Medallist’s dam is by Mineshaft (an AP Indy son) out of a mare from Dayjur/Danzig and Alydar lines.

HONOR THY SECRET, 2017, 15.2 grey gelding

Our volunteers were swooning over this adorable guy. Honor Thy Secret has the body of an over grown pony (in our opinion) and who doesn’t love a pony?! There’s a lot of personality in this body. After 29 starts, in which he earned $38,000 with two wins and two seconds, Secret is starting to let his connections know that he is ready for a new job. His connections typically have their horses for longer, and eventually retire them to their backyard after racing, however, they feel Honor Thy Secret is too young and athletic to just be a pasture pet. They think he wants a job and a second career where he can really shine. They report he is retiring sound and clean legged. They also report he has no stable vices. They report that Honor Thy Secret can be strong and would be best suited for someone experienced in handling off the track thoroughbreds, however, that quality may change at a farm with some let down time and turnout. He jogged very politely on a loose lead during his jog video, and stood perfectly still for his photo shoot. Our volunteers enjoyed cuddling with him. When jogging, he had nice suspension and a flat kneed movement, making us think he could be a nice hunter prospect, but surely he could go in many directions. He will be eligible for RRP 2023. Honor Thy Secret is by Honorable Dillon, who is a son of the great Tapit out of a mare from the Blushing Groom line. Honor Thy Secret’s dam is by Bernstein mare.

VITANZA, 2016, 15.3h bay mare

If you’re looking for a kind, quiet, easy going horse then Vitanza is your girl! Her trainer reports that she is so easy a “child could ride and handle her”.  Our volunteer who jogged her agreed completely, stating she could have easily just “trit-trotted her home”!  She is reported vice free and is as lovely in her stall as she is out of it.  She is well behaved to ride, for the farrier, and for the vet, and is reported to be sound. This lovely girl earned near $100,000 in her 40 starts, but she is showing her trainer that she is ready for a new career. Vitanza has a lovely compact build and fantastic feet.  She displayed a swinging natural over track at the walk and a lovely, floaty trot that is su4e to get you noticed in any arena! Even on a cold breezy day, she stayed right at our volunteer’s shoulder.  Vitanza would be a very ammy friendly restart! Vitanza is by Get Stormy with the Stormy Atlantic and Storm cat line.  She is out of a Raffie’s Majesty mare.  This lovely girl is one of the rare few that come through that would be a good first time restart! Don’t miss out on this lovely, sweet girl!

ARMANDO’S TEAM, 2017, 16h chestnut gelding

Hubba hubba! This flashy cutie with lots of chrome quickly became a volunteer favorite for the year. On a cold, blustery day that had many horses jumping out of their skin, Armando’s Team stood perfectly quietly, enjoying all the attention. We admired his shiny roan coat and his cute white patch on his belly. This flashy boy will certainly turn heads wherever he goes! His connections report that he is retiring after 25 starts after earning $49,000. He has some enlarged osselets, which his connections report are cold and set. They report he is great to work around, has no vices, is a big sweetheart, who works hard and enjoys attention. They also report the exercise rider reports he is good to ride. He trotted quietly on a loose lead before calmly heading back into the warmth of his barn. Armando’s Team will be eligible for RRP 2023. We could see him enjoying the hunter ring, but surely he could go in other directions well. We know his flashiness will transfer into any arena. Armando’s Team is by Tapiture, who is a son of Taptit, out of a mare by Gone West with Northern Dancer, Buckpasser, and Grey Dawn in her female family.

BANKERS BEAST, 2017, 15.3h chestnut mare

Sometimes we think horses are completely misnamed in their registered jockey club names; this is one of those. Not only does she defy the chestnut mare stereotype, she is the sweetest, most un-beast like girl that we could possibly imagine! With four white socks, this lovely mare has some flashy chrome and is also super sweet and cute. We admired her thick build and good, solid bone. Her handler gushed superlatives telling us that she is “perfect in her stall” with no vices and is good to ride, saying that she is a “complete sweetheart” and “such a really good girl”. And that’s what we observed- a sweet, friendly mare. On the day her jog video was taken, it was very icy, and she was barefoot since her shoes had been pulled after a nail prick on her left front foot, and she had been trimmed quite short. Despite all that she showed light springy movement with good hind end engagement. She has earned $48K with 3 wins in 23 starts, but she has not run well in her three races this year, so her connections feel that she would prefer a different job. She is described as being great with kids; her handler’s children love to visit her. With her sweet, gentle nature, her handler mused that she would be a “good mom”. A barn favorite, her connections are looking to find her a really good home where she will be much loved and receive lots of peppermints. We think she will flourish with some downtime and TLC and be a very loving horse. If you are looking for a sweet, cuddly mare- this is your girl!
She is by Central Banker, who is by Speightstown and out of a mare from His Majesty/Ribot and Halo lines. She is out of a Majestic Warrior mare with A.P. Indy and Dynaformer on her dam’s side.

MR. MIMS, 2016 16.1h bay gelding

This solid bodied very good looking guy captured our volunteers’ fancy with his kind eye and his quiet and friendly personality. He is very well put together, with a strong hind end balanced by a strong shoulder.  His trainer describes him as a laid back horse who is very good to handle, with no vices.  We could see Mr. Mims’ laid back personality for ourselves, as he stood soaking up the sun and our attention, and jogged off on a loose lead without the usual chain over his nose, showing more interest in walking than jogging. He has a good overstep and flow to his walk.  His trainer states that he has had some ankle issues, and he is not holding up for racing but she has recently blistered his ankles and is soundness is improving.  Note that Equibase has him listed as a ridgling, but we verified with his original owner/trainer that he was gelded, and for some reason Equibase never updated his status. Mr. Mims has a decent race record, with three wins in 20 starts, and 6 additional placings.   Mr. Mims is by Teuflesberg, who is from the Johannesburg/Henessy sire line and out of a mare from the Halo line — excellent sport horse lines.  Mr. Mims’ dam has notable hardy sport horse sires such as Buckpasser, Private Account, and Damascus in her pedigree.

GOLDMINE KAZ, 2017 15.3h bay gelding

The photos do not do justice to this absolutely adorable, sweet gelding who we think is absolutely a goldmine find! He checks all the boxes: cute, sweet, kind, good mover, great sport horse pedigree. We photographed Kaz in mid-Ocotber, and a shoppper who was with us that morning fell head over heels in love and wanted to buy him on the spot.  But the owner then decided that he wanted Kaz to race again, so that shopper moved on to another horse. Now the trainer has let us know that the owner is finally ready to let Kaz retire from racing and find a great new home.  He has unlimited potential for any new discipline. His trainer reports that he is sound with no vices.  He states that “Kaz” is a straightforward ride.  He is reported to have no stall vices, is very good for the farrier and vet, and is wonderful with his two children! He showed off his easy-going manner as the trainer jogged him a long loose lead,  and as he soaked up volunteer attention during his photo shoot.  He loves his peppermints and was happy to have hands all over him.  The trainer could not say enough good things about Kaz Kaz demonstrated a naturally over-tracking walk and an even tempo jog with a nice flow. He was unphased by the cool, breezy weather that had many horses that day feeling a bit up. This guy could go in any direction. Goldmine Kaz is by Bank Heist who is by Maria’s Mon and out of a Dehere (Deputy Minister) mare- one of our volunteer’s favorite lines, boasting of trainability, sensibility, jumping ability. His dam Pennymine is by Mineshaft (AP Indy) out of a Cure the Blues (Hail to Reason) mare.

PURE OF SPIRIT, 2010 16.1h grey/roan mare

Located on a farm in Shortsville NY, very close to the Finger Lakes Race Track.
This big grey mare doesn’t look as spiffed up as the fit racehorses we usually list because she has spent the last few years being a broodmare. She has had some foals who are winners on the track, including one that sold for $60,000 as a yearling. Her current owner, who is also a trainer at Finger Lakes, bought her in foal to a young Kentucky stallion last fall, but that foal died.  He is too busy to keep her for breeding, and he would like to find her an excellent home either as a broodmare, or as a riding horse.  He has already started riding her at his farm, and he reports that she has been gentle and quiet, and hasn’t forgotten riding cues. The RRP has just announced a new “retired broodmare division,” and she is PERFECT for that and fits the eligibility criteria! Pure of Spirit was a good racehorse, with 2 wins and 5 additional top 3 finishes in a 10 race career, winning at the allowance level on the turf at the top level NY and Florida tracks, and earning over $100,000.  If you want to see what she looked like when she was a dark steel grey fit and winning race horse, click on her pedigree query link below and then click on the photo icon there. Although she is out of shape, we could see that Pure of Spirit has correct conformation with solid bone.  There wasn’t much space to jog her on the farm where she lives, but we could see that she is a pretty mover, light, with good hind end push. We watched the videos of her winning races to get a better assessment of her movement, and she had a big strided fluid and efficient gallop and a big light flat kneed trot.  She has ideal sport horse breeding. Her sire is Purim, who is by Dynaformer out of a Lord at War mare.  Her dam is by Silver Ghost, who is a Halo grandson, and is out of a Pleasant Colony mare (the His Majesty/Ribot sire line).  You could go in many directions with Pure of Spirit — breeding to race, breeding for sport/jumping disciplines, or enjoying her for riding.  She has many good years left to give.
References will be required, and she will go with a contract to ensure her future is in good hands at all times.

SPEED TALKS, 2017, 17.1h bay mare

This stunning big mare had our volunteers drooling and wishing we had our checkbooks with us.  She’s the whole package — looks, size and substance, kind temperament, sound, beautiful mover.  Her trainer says she is good to groom and work with, and we got to see that for ourselves as she brushed Speed Talks to get her ready for her photos, not even bothering to tie her, and the mare just sweetly enjoyed being brushed. Speed Talks won her most recent race, but her trainer feels that she’s not going to be competitive in the higher level races they aim for, so they are letting her go out a winner from the racing world… and we are confident that she is going to be a winner many times over in whatever new discipline you choose for her. The trainer told us that Speed Talks has never had any soundness issues, and that she has a light mouth and exercise riders say she is very nice to ride. We admired her solid bone, nice topline, huge shoulder, deep heart girth, and strong hind end.  For her video she showed a flowing overstep at the walk, and a lovely light trot with good push from behind. Speed Talks has been a competitive racehorse full of heart, accumulating 5 wins, 5 seconds, and 3 thirds in 24 starts. Her sire is Afleet Express, a son of Afleet Alex.  Afleet Alex offspring are known for kind temperaments and good movement, and we know of several who have successfully transitioned to success as show hunters, and eventers.  Her dam, Unbridled Truth, is by Yes It’s True out of an Unbridled’s Song mare.  Yes It’s True is from the Raja Baba sire line that so many people covet.   If you are seriously interested in this exceptional sport horse prospect, we think you should be speedy in talking to the trainer, before our volunteers find our checkbooks!

BIG RED GIRL, 2017, 16.2h chestnut mare

Aptly named, this gorgeous mare is big, and she is red!  But throw those chestnut mare silly stereotypes out the window, because this big red girl defies them all!. Her trainer told us she is very sweet, easy to handle, with no vices, an easy keeper, and very sound. As he put it, “I have never had a bandage on her.”  Her handler who posed her for us also has ponied her at the races, and she reports that Big Red Girl is very well behaved to take to the races. We admired her solid bodied and very correct conformation, and when we saw her movement at the jog, we were even more impressed with her. She displayed lovely movement, with a big flowing step. She has 3 wins in 27 starts, but this year she hasn’t finished better than third, so her trainer knows it is time to move her on to a new career. She has unlimited potential for any new discipline, and she is an exciting sport horse prospect.  Her sire is Big Brown, from the Danzig sire line, and he has become a popular sport horse sire.  Her dam is by Wildcat Shoes, and she has Raja Raba, In Reality, and Clever Trick in her pedigree.

WHEREYAGOINOWEN, 2017, 15.3h bay gelding

We have dubbed Owen as “Mr. Adorable!” When the trainer brought Owen out to pose for his photos, all 4 of our volunteers immediately exclaimed “Adorable!!” And we just kept saying “adorable” as Owen soaked up our attention and his loving track connections told us what a wonderful horse he is. We were all immediately struck by Owen’s sense of huge presence. He’s bright bay with a dappled coat, a gorgeous forelock, and some flashy chrome who “knows that he’s beautiful”. Although it is difficult to see in the pictures, we also noticed a very unique, multiple swirl pattern that runs down his face, almost like a wish bone. He’s described as having “tons of personality” which we got to witness first-hand during our visit .The trainer and his wife told us that Owen loves their kids and their kids reciprocate that love; Owen is the horse that they “most trust” for their kids to be around and handle and play with.  Owne stood kindly and was very cooperative horse during his photoshoot; he truly seemed to love having all the attention on him.

Owen has a nicely balanced build, with a long, nicely sloping shoulder and powerful hindquarters. We’re told that he has no vices or injuries. During his jog, we observed a cute, springy trot with good reach. With 46 starts to his credit, 3 wins, and 14 seconds and thirds, Owen is approaching war horse status, and he appears to be a happy, good-feeling horse that moves well, a testament to his solid structure and good care. He’s proven his durability and appears to be a happy, well-adjusted horse who is also a barn favorite. We think he will truly shine with his very own person. His potential for any new discipline is unlimited.  Owen is by Khozan, who is a son of Distorted Humor out of the great racemare Delta Princess, and AP Indy daughter.  Owen’s dam is by Gulch, who is the sire or grandsire of many great jumpers, including some top TB show hunters.

The adorable, beautiful, lovely moving Owen is a standout volunteer favorite for this season, and we think whoever gets him will be very fortunate indeed. Owen’s track connections care deeply about making sure their horses go to great homes that will keep in touch, so be prepared to convince them that you are the best home for Owen.

FIFTYSHADESOFRUN, 2019, 15.2h, Bay Filly

This spicy filly is eager to work, and tries hard on the track, but despite breaking her maiden in May, has just not found great success. She is described as sound, with no vices. Our volunteers could see this girl’s compact build being an asset in a barrels, gaming or polo environment, but surely she could go in many different directions. She’s got the competitive spirit and athleticism that could make her a great competitive partner. In her 17 starts she has earned over $32,000 with 1 win, 1 second, and 4 thirds. Her connections report she has no vices and is a nice girl to work around. She is an easy keeper and quite round barrelled. Due to her more “on the muscle” way of going, she is likely best for a more experienced handler and rider. Although she does not do anything naughty, her go-go demeanor could be intimidating for someone without experience. Fifty will be eligible for RRP 223. She has highly desired breeding as she is by Mineshaft (AP Indy) out of an Empire Maker mare from a female family rich in top stakes winners. The winner of the polo preliminary rounds in this year’s RRP came from these same track connections, and we can see Fiftyshadesofrun following in her former stablemate’s footsteps!

NAPOLEON COMPLEX, 2018, 15.2+h, dk bay gelding

Great things can and do come in smaller packages! We first noticed this adorable young gelding while he was on the walker. He was pulled straight off the walker (you may notice his dusty legs) but immediately settled down and went to work for us posing like a pro; he was agreeable and friendly for his photoshoot. He has a lovely dark coat, a distinctive stripe down his face and exudes a relaxed, confident air. We thought his name was fun (what a great show name!) and that he was completely adorable. He stands out to us as a very memorable horse, always a nice thing in the show ring. He was described to us as, “a happy, friendly, and athletic” guy and that’s pretty much what we observed. We were told that he has no stable vices and that he trains easily. We all thought that he is nicely put together; we liked his compact, well-balanced build, and nicely developed topline. But then we saw him move… Wowza! He displayed gorgeous, floaty movement with nice reach and freely forward, big stride.
He has two very popular sport sires in his pedigree. He’s by Upstart (a son of Flatter ) and out of a Freud mare. Another son of Flatter won the huge show hunter division at this year’s RRP… we think Napoleon Complex could make it two in a row for his sire! With a single win in his 25 starts, his connections are ready to move him to a new career where he can shine. Based on his pedigree, lovely movement, and athletic build, we suspect he might also prove to be clever over fences, so we could see him excelling in many arenas- dressage, eventing, or hunter/jumper. For someone who doesn’t need a huge horse (and often, a more compact, ‘right-size’ horse is easier for many of us to put together and ride well) this athletic young gelding could be the perfect fit!

GET YOUR GOLD, 2019 16+h grey filly

If you offer this sweetheart plenty of peppermints, you will indeed get your gold!  She was described to us as a sweet filly with great ground manners who adores peppermints.  Get Your Gold started her racing career with great promise, winning her first start earlier this year at Aqueduct, and running a strong second in an allowance race at Finger Lakes.  But she was bumped around in both those races, and she soured on the racing experience.  Her trainer sent her to his farm for a break, and while she has been working out steadily since her return to the track, she is not showing the same enthusiasm for racing after enjoying the farm life. She raced at the beginning of November, and showed no interest, trailing the field. Rather than push her to do something she doesn’t enjoy, her trainer would like to find her a new career. Her potential is unlimited for any discipline.  She is described as sound, with no vices.  For her jog video she showed very good movement with good engagement and some spring to her step. She is sired by Teuflesberg, who is by Johannesberg (Hennessy) out of a Devil’s Bag (Halo) mare.  Get Your Gold’s dam, Holy Gold, is by Touch Gold (Deputy Minister/Buckpasser) out of a Holy Bull mare — can’t beat that for sport horse lines.

STRIKE THAT BID, 2020, 15.3h+ bay filly

Our volunteers were swooning over this gorgeous girl. Strike That Bid, lovingly called “Betsy”, is a blank slate. She has an official workout (making her eligible for RRP 2023) but she has never raced. She is big barrelled and while she is currently 15.3, at only 2 years old, Betsy will continue to grow for some time. She would benefit from some turnout time this winter to grow. Betsy was super sweet in her stall while we watched her getting groomed. She is reported to be perfectly behaved at the farm and enjoys turnout. Betsy was very quiet during her photo shoot. While the horses in the hot walker surrounding her reared and bucked and made lots of commotion, Betsy stood perfectly quiet on a loose lead. Her connections report she seems to want to be a pet rather than a race horse. She is an easy keeper and loves to eat. They report that the left front knee has not yet closed and therefore they do not want to continue her in race training, especially when she is not showing a lot of promise as a race horse. We think she will be very successful (and very flashy) in a different discipline once given time to mature. She jogged politely on a loose lead and seemed a bit foot sore, however, she was jogging on gravel without shoes. She may benefit from wearing shoes at her new home. There’s a whole lot to love about this gorgeous girl. Strike that Bid is a very well bred young filly, by Munnings out of a Tiznow mare.

STRAIGHT EIGHT, 2018, 16.0h, chestnut gelding

Straight Eight is sometimes called “Mark Spitz” around the barn because he “swims like a fish” and loves his pool time! For us, he was a straight-up chill dude, but all business, and got right to work posing like a pro. His handlers describe him as being “the sweetest, most laid back” horse with a “temperament to die for”. And that’s what we observed from this very agreeable fellow. We were told that he is “super in his stall”, with no stable vices. His exercise riders report that he is easy to ride and sometimes even “wants to be a tad on the lazy” side. So, there you go… who doesn’t love a laid-back OTTB who just wants to hang out at the pool? Overall, we observed nice balance and square proportions. But can you imagine how adorable he will be when he fills out and adds a little more muscle to his neck and topline? We loved his cute face too. And he has an interesting smudge mark on his right thigh / gaskin. He was reported to us to be sound. We observed this cutie walking and jogging politely on a relaxed lead. Chill, laid-back, and agreeable, he would be a fun project!
With 14 starts, he has amassed a respectable $50,712 in earnings with a 3-3-2 record, but this year he has only been on the board once with a single win. So his connections feel that it is time to consider other options for him. We can imagine him being happy and successful in many different disciplines.
Straight Eight is by Honorable Dillion, who is a son of Tapit out of a mare from the Blushing Groom line. His dam is Clean Jean, who was a winning machine and a Finger Lakes legend. In 2012, Clean Jean won more races than any other horse in the US. She has passed heart, durability, and a good temperament on to her foals. Clean Jean has a half brother who we placed a few years ago who is a successful eventer. She is by Ecton Park, a son of Forty Niner.

TRUE PALACE, 2017, 17.1h, dk. bay gelding

Hello tall, dark and handsome! We’re told that this big boy is good in his stall and doesn’t weave or crib but can sometimes (like many sensitive, thin-skinned Thoroughbreds) be a little ticklish while being groomed. We were told that his exercise riders find him to be “fairly easy to ride”.
He is currently racing fit and in his photos, he appears somewhat leaner from what we remembered him being in person. The good news is that he was also reported to be a very “good eater” so we expect that once he is off the track, in a quieter setting, and maybe after following a standard ulcer protocol, he should easily put on a few extra pounds and fill out nicely. We liked the slope of his shoulder and long elegant neck.
Early-on in training with his current connections, his feet were a tad sensitive so he wore glue-on shoes, but there is no reason that he can’t now wear regular shoes. And, in his video, we noted that he was missing his LH shoe. In-person, we observed a swingy, springy step in his trot- almost as if he had a little of a swagger and knows what a handsome dude he is!
True Palace is by Palace Malice with Curlin and Roberto blood on his sire’s side and from a Warfront mare with Danzig lines on his dam’s side.

SHE’S NOT BLUFFING, 2016, 16.0+h, bay mare- retained for racing

This chunky and solidly built girl was described to us as a “totally classy mare” which we observed to be true. Her connections tell us that she is neat and clean in her stall (and who doesn’t appreciate that?), calm in the barn with no stable vices, and quiet to groom and tack up. We’re told that she is sweet and kind with the trainer’s children who like to visit and feed her peppermints. Her exercise riders have described her as “perfect”, jogging quietly and naturally framing up under tack. But although she works fine in company, she has told her handlers that she is an alpha mare who requires solo turnout (You have to respect a mare with a clear opinion about something!). She was engaged and cooperative during her phot shoot where we admired the substantial width of her chest and depth of her heart girth. And we loved her classic and inquisitive face!
She has been a hard-working earner with 7 wins in 48 starts, accumulating life-time earnings of $138,422. She does have some track ‘jewelry’ which her handlers have been careful to monitor and maintain (you may observe her fetlock is painted in her photo); they told us that that she was sound immediately after last racing on this RF osselet two weeks ago. But they reluctantly feel that it is now time to move her along to give her a less demanding job. They suggested that this obviously much-loved mare, who has always tried so hard for them, might also be a broodmare prospect in addition to other sport activities.
She’s Not Bluffing is by Verrazano, who is by More Than Ready from the Halo sire line, and out of a mare by Giant’s Causeway. Her dam is by Pine Bluff who is by Danzig, and she is out of a mare from the Cure the Blues/Hail to Reason sire line. These are outstanding sport horse bloodlines.

DANCE FOR BOURBON, 2019 16+h dark bay filly

This young daughter of War Dancer is not showing enough racing ability for her connections to bring her back next year, but her potential as a sport horse is unlimited.  She has an uphill build, strong shoulder, correct conformation, and clean legs.  She is described as very sweet, but the contact person notes that she will initially pin her ears, but quickly drops that pretense and loves on you. She also notes that Dance for Bourbon has no bad habits or vices, and is good to work with.  After ten races without a win, her connections feel that she just isn’t into the racing game, and they would like to find her a new career where she can excel.  Her photos and video were taken 4 days after her last race, and in those 4 days she had just hand walked around the shedrow, so she was a bit up for the jog. But she was very respectful of her handler, did what he asked, and showed very nice light movement with good hints of suspension.  We can see dressage, eventing, or any jumping discipline in her future.  Her sire is War Dancer, who is by the great War Front, from the Danzig sire line. Fappiano, Roberto, and Northern Dancer are other prominent sport horse sires on her sire’s side.  Her dam is a granddaughter of Maria’s Mon, who is one of the most highly sought after sport horse sires.

OVER THE SAND, 2019, 16.2h dk. bay filly

On a day filled with lovely dark bay fillies, this was one of our favorites! This pretty, shiny sweetheart stood quietly while she was posed for conformation shots and didn’t move a muscle. She certainly made the volunteers job super easy! We watched as she snuggled with her handler and was also the perfect dainty nibbler of peppermints. We loved her elegant neck, long shoulder, and square underpinning. There is nice depth through her heart girth and body too- especially for a young filly. We were told that she has no vices in her stall and that the exercise riders report that she is very “easy going”. We were told that she is sound and has not had any injuries. We observed her to be friendly and relaxed throughout our session. During her jog video, we observed cute movement as she stayed polite and relaxed on a fairly loose lead, closely mirroring her handler’s movements.
With ten starts to her credit, she started her race career in Aqueduct and Belmont before breaking her maiden in her first attempt at Finger Lakes. But since then, four races later, she is yet to be back on the boards again and was described as a “mid-packer” who has failed to earn her keep by bringing home a paycheck. But that is definitely your gain! With the end of the race season approaching, her owners are ready to transition her to a new career. She has an excellent pedigree for sport and we can imagine her going in many direction for her second career. She is by Overanalzye (Dixie Union – Dixieland Band sire line) and out of an Unbridled’s Song mare. Her second dam is a major stakes winner, and her female family is full of stakes winners and stakes producers — tracing back to the dam of the great Arts and Letters. With this pedigree and her solid build, she has excellent broodmare potential.
If you are looking for a sweet, cuddly, good-sized filly with an impressive sport lineage- this is probably one worth checking out!

BEACHSIDE 2016, 15.3 h. Bay gelding

Beachside is a classy handsome horse with a perfect sport horse pedigree — he is a son of Giant’s Causeway out of a Tiznow mare. He also happens to be cute, friendly, relaxed around people, and perhaps even a little bit of a ham and show-off! His owner/handler told us that he is “very intelligent, responsive to voice commands, and likes to communicate to us”. And we observed that he does seem to enjoy engaging with people. He’s said to be neat in his stall and easy to work around- he’s even typically groomed loose in his stall without being tied. The exercise riders report that he is “very nice to ride.” Beachside is very well put together with a long, sloping shoulder, pretty head, elegant neck, and powerful hindquarters. He does have some ankle rounding but we are told that this does not bother him and that he is sound. He walked and jogged politely on a loose lead where we saw some airy, floaty movement. Judging from his pedigree, build, and movement, Beachside could excel in many disciplines, from eventing to dressage to H/J.
Beachside has had a successful race career, earning $166,431 in his 41 starts, with 5 wins, 6 seconds, and 6 thirds. This guy has it all — looks, movement, pedigree! And those of us who ride the horse, not the withers height, know that the athletic, solidly built 15.3h horses are often the overall best and fit all but the very tallest of riders. So those of you average height people who know better than obsessing over ginormous horses will get a true gem in Beachside!

THIRD STAR, 2019, 16.1+h. liver chestnut filly

What happens when “wicked slow” meets “super sweet”? If you are lucky, you get a lovely young sport horse prospect like Third Star, especially when you add in solid body with a great shoulder and lofty movement! The first thing that we noticed about her was her unsual and striking liver chestnut color… in person, it was such a rich, warm shade of finest chocolate (and you can see from her photos that depending on the lighting, it looks like a range of colors, from black to bay to golden). She impressed us with a big, solid build, long/pretty neck, and substantial bone. We agreed that she is exceptionally well filled out for a three-year old filly! She also sports a healthy winter coat, a kind eye, and large expressive ears (which we absolutely fell in love with!). She does have an old splint but we were told that it doesn’t bother her and that she is sound. She was described as being good in her stall, without any stable vices (other than the occasionally making “ugly faces”), and that she trailers well. On the farm, she has only been turned out by herself. She has just one start (which makes her fully RRP eligible), but it was sufficiently lackluster that her owners decided to consider other career options for this big, lovely young filly. For her videos she displayed a swingy big walk, and a light lofty step at the trot. Her sire is First Dude, a son of Stephen Got Even by AP Indy, out of a mare form Smart Strike and Relaunch/In Reality lines. We know eventers, as well as astute resellers to the eventing market, who covet First Dude offspring for their ammy friendly great brains, steadiness and work ethic, movement and jumping ability. Third Star has the typical head of a First Dude offspring, but what they lack in refined chiseled heads they make up for with temperament, brains, and all around wonderfulness. Third Star’s dam, is a stakes placed daughter of Broken Vow out of a Dixieland Band mare. She is a half sister to two stakes winning mares, and one of her half sisters has a two year old racing this year showing great promise for future stakes winning glory. With this pedigree Third Star offers excellent broodmare potential for racing or sport horse breeding. She comes from great track connections (known for their horses having great success at the RRP… hint, hint!) who want to assure the very best of homes for Third Star, so references will be required and checked for the person who is fortunate to be the new owner of this filly.

RUN LEA RUN, 2019, 16h bay gelding — sold for racing

Lea is another nice, happy, sensible, young gelding! Only 3, he still has some growing to do. He’s described to us as being a “nice horse” who is easy to handle for pretty much everything, and that’s exactly what we observed. He was eagerly responsive to everything that was asked of him; he seems like a true people pleaser! We were told that his only vice is that he sometimes cribs on the edge of his bucket at feeding time (this may easily change once he’s off the track and in a different environment). When we visited him, he had been cooped up in his stall for three days following a race earlier in the week; he walked, backed up, allowed us to pose him, and stood quietly like a perfect gentleman. The exercise riders report that he is easy to jog and that “he tucks his head down and goes to work”. During his video, he was happy and ready to go, but quickly settled; he was responsive and seemed eager to wait and receive for cues from his handler. We observed a nice relaxed walk overstep and fluid trot. Several volunteers exclaimed, “cute!” when he displayed an athletic jog. He also boasts a favorable pedigree for sport- he is by Lea with Giants Causeway and Saddler’s Wells on his sire’s side, out of a Hard Spun mare with Danzig and Dynaformer on his dam’s side.

As the Finger Lakes season winds down, and with only a single win in his 14 starts, his owner has decided to sell this adorable young gelding before he returns to Florida for the winter. Which is only your gain!

WELLBEHAVEDWOMEN, 2016, 15.3h, chestnut mare

Wellbehavedwomen may live up to her name, but she certainly breaks some stereotypes. Chestnut mare? Well, she was as sweet and sensible as could be and as friendly as pie! We immediately noted her thick, solid, sturdy build with muscular hindquarters. An affectionate girl, her handler (who is her owner/breeder) told us that she just “wants to be a pet”. We definitely got a glimpse of this sweet and snuggly personality. She loves having her ears rubbed; we were told that she will always put her head down at feeding time in order to get her ears rubbed first, before eating. She appeared to be well-handled and patiently allowed volunteers to position her for her confirmation shots. We were told that she has no stall vices and doesn’t crib. The exercise riders call her ‘the pony’ and report back that she is nice to ride. She appears to have good feet, and jogged barefoot on the concrete. For her video, she was quiet on the lead at both the walk and jog and demonstrated some cute, floaty action during her jog. Wellbehavedwomen never started and has no published workouts (not RRP eligible); she has spent the two years that racing was impacted by COVID on the farm, coming back to the track only in May of this year. On the farm, she turned out with two, more dominant mares but reportedly gets along with them fine. So here we are- a sweet, friendly, well-built mare with basic training that is a clean slate. We picture her as a friendly, sensible, all-round ammy horse who could go in many different directions. And a fun project for a lucky buyer. Wellbehavedwomen is by Smart Bid with Danzig noted on her sire’s side out of Canadian Cat with Storm Cat and Seattle Slew noted in her dam’s lineage.

MR. GHOST, 2018, 16.1h, bay gelding

This handsome boy has an elegant presence about him. He was friendly and relaxed during his photos. We were told that he is easy to work around without any stable vices (other than being a bit of a chow hound). We couldn’t help but to admire his long, sloping shoulder and elegant neck. He was relaxed, attentive and responsive during our photos and video. Mr.Ghost is fairly lightly raced with only 14 starts. He began his career at Aqueduct and Churchill Downs before coming to Finger Lakes in June of this year. He broke his maiden about a month ago and hasn’t done much since as we’re told he’d, “rather go slow than fast”. This handsome, well-balanced boy “screams hunter” to his current trainer. And we could definitely see him cantering around in the hunter ring. Mr.Ghost is by Ghostzapper, out of a Empire Maker mare with Unbridled, Sadler’s Wells and Deputy Minister on his dams’s side. He is another lightly raced, well-built, good-looking, sound, young horse that everyone is always looking for.
